Community Life

Maitreya is more than a place to stay. It is an evolving experiment in community living, where people from different backgrounds come together to explore a slower, more conscious, and collaborative way of life.

Some people stay for a few days, others for several months, and a small group has chosen to make Maitreya their long-term home. While everyone's journey is different, we all contribute to creating a welcoming, respectful, and alive community.

Who lives in Maitreya?

Our community is made up of different circles of people, each contributing in their own way.

Core Community Members
People committed to shaping the long-term vision and development of Maitreya.

Long-Term Colivers
Remote workers, creatives, and changemakers who stay for weeks or months while becoming part of daily community life.

Volunteers
People who exchange their time and skills while learning about regenerative living, natural building, and community.

Guests

Visitors joining us for a retreat, holiday, guided tour, or simply a few quiet days in nature.

Together, these different rhythms create the living ecosystem that makes Maitreya what it is.

Times sometimes changes based on the season and natural rhythms.
Maitreya's daily schedule
While each day naturally evolves, having a shared rhythm helps us create structure without losing flexibility.

Want to join our
core community?

Our long-term community is growing slowly and intentionally.

We are not looking for many people, but for people who genuinely resonate with our vision and feel called to contribute to it.

Joining the community is a gradual process based on mutual trust, shared values, and getting to know one another over time.

As Maitreya continues to evolve, we're also shaping the structures that support long-term community life. Over time, we'll share more about our governance, decision-making process, financial contributions, ownership model, and how responsibilities are held within the community.

We're also preparing an onboarding guide for people interested in joining, covering topics such as our trial period, values alignment, mutual expectations, and the process of becoming part of the community.

Something Bigger

Community is only one part of a much larger vision.

WHY REGENERATION?

Maitreya is located in one of the driest regions of Europe, in southeastern Spain, where increasing water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and desertification are becoming significant challenges. These conditions invite an important question: how can we work with nature, rather than against it, to restore living ecosystems?

Healthy soil, water, plants, insects, animals, and humans all depend on one another. When rainwater is allowed to infiltrate the ground instead of rapidly running off the landscape, it replenishes underground water reserves, improves soil fertility, supports biodiversity, and gradually creates more resilient ecosystems.

Inspired by regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles, many of our projects explore practical ways to slow, spread, and store water in the landscape through water retention systems, swales, tree planting, biodiversity restoration, natural building, and appropriate technologies. Rather than fighting the climate, we aim to better understand the natural processes already present and learn how to collaborate with them.

At the same time, we believe regeneration is not only ecological. Just as landscapes can heal when given the right conditions, people and communities can too. Through shared responsibility, honest communication, and collective learning, we explore what a more connected and resilient way of living might look like.
